Our Story
Hudson Scenic Studios was founded in 1980 by Neil A. Mazzella with a clear purpose: to help creative teams turn ambitious ideas into reality.
From the beginning, Hudson operated at the center of a unique creative and practical challenge: balancing the vision of designers, the needs of producers, and the realities of budgets and schedules. Under Neil's leadership, that balance became Hudson's defining strength.
Over more than four decades, Hudson grew into one of the most respected scenic fabrication and automation companies in the entertainment industry. Its work has helped bring hundreds of Broadway productions, tours, live events, and permanent installations to life, including Hamilton, Hadestown, The Lion King, Aladdin, Chicago, The Producers, Mamma Mia!, Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, and The Phantom of the Opera. Hudson also engineered and fabricated iconic attractions including the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball, the Disney dark ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and scenic elements and labor for the Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium.
As the company evolved, so did its capabilities. Hudson expanded from scenic fabrication into technical design, automation, custom finishes, electrics, staging, installation, and technical project delivery. In 2007, Neil founded Hudson Theatrical Associates, extending the company's reach into production management and technical supervision for Broadway productions, tours, and live events.
Today, Hudson enters its next chapter under the leadership of Stephen M. Kaus, CEO, and with the ownership support of Great Point Studios. Building on Neil's legacy, Hudson continues to expand its reach beyond Broadway into themed entertainment, cruise lines, film and television, experiential environments, and permanent installations.
The future of Hudson is rooted in the same values that brought it to its present: craftsmanship, collaboration, ingenuity, and integrity. What began as a Broadway scene shop has become an integrated creative fabrication partner - one built to help clients bring extraordinary experiences to life.
Hudson fabricated and automated the barricades for the original Broadway production of Les Misérables, 1986.
