Hudson Scenic Studio’s summer internship program offers candidates the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced, professional shop environment. Interns will work alongside seasoned industry professionals, contribute to active projects, and gain valuable insight into the processes that bring major entertainment and artistic visions to life.

Eligibility requirements:

At least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship

Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university

A U.S. citizen or U.S. Student visa holder.

Shop Floor Internship
Work on Hudson’s shop floor alongside experienced carpenters, welders, and electricians in the fabrication of scenic elements gaining hands-on experience with the materials, tools, and techniques used to build large-scale scenery and stage mechanics. Typical work/learning experiences include: • Assisting with fabrication, assembly, and finishing of scenic elements • Participating in woodworking projects with Carpentry department • Supporting metal fabrication and rigging operations in the Iron department • Helping with wiring, soldering, lighting integration, and cable management in the Electrics department • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area
Engineering Internship
Work in Hudson’s Engineering Department to support the design and implementation of both scenic elements for theatrical and themed projects. Assist in drafting detailed shop drawings for a variety of scenic components, including wood and steel structures. Typical work/learning experiences include: • Drafting technical drawings for scenic elements using AutoCAD or Inventor • Creating detailed construction drawings for wood and steel scenic structures • Preparing CNC files and documentation for fabrication • Collaborating with engineering, production management, and shop teams to ensure constructability and design intent • Participating in internal design reviews and on-the-floor problem solving
Automation Internship
Work in Hudson’s Automation and Engineering Department to support the design and implementation of automation systems for theatrical and themed projects. Assist in drafting and modeling detailed shop drawings for a variety of mechanical components, such as motion-control elements, lifts, turntables, and winches, contributing to the design of complex automation systems. Typical work/learning experiences include: • Creating technical drawings for automated elements using 3D AutoCAD and/or Inventor • Floor support for console and control setup • Assisting with the integration of automation systems (motors, winches, turntables, etc.) • Supporting electrical layouts and system planning for motion-controlled scenery • Participating in internal design reviews and on-the-floor problem solving
Production Management Internship
Work in the Production Management department to coordinate labor scheduling, fabrication, installation, and load out for a wide range of projects. Gain hands-on experience managing logistics and coordinating large-scale, technically complex projects in a fast-paced shop environment. Typical work/learning experiences include: • Supporting labor tracking for all shop departments, timekeeping, and crew management • Helping create, maintain and update union crew schedules • Attending internal meetings and shop walkthroughs with clients • Supporting project documentation and reporting as needed • Communicating with department heads to discuss labor needs and availability • Observing and assisting with trucking, deliveries, and vendor coordination
Project Management Internship
Work in the Project Management department to support project estimating, budgeting, labor/material estimating, and client interfacing and relationships. Work closely with team member to experience the lifecycle of a project from client introduction to bid sessions to preparing proposal and introducing awarded projects to the shop. Typical work/learning experiences include: • Supporting the bidding process with Project Managers and Estimators • Attending and taking notes for internal meetings with Hudson staff • Participating in external meetings and shop visits with clients (Designers, Tech Supervisors, General Managers, etc.) • Producing interdepartmental paperwork
