Tristan und Isolde

Celebrated by The New York Times as "the event of the season," the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Tristan und Isolde called for an austere, modernist set by designer Es Devlin, trading ornament for precision and spectacle for tension. The delivery timeline matched that discipline: six weeks from award to installation, with a system built for rapid deployment and long-term repertory use. 

Hudson Scenic Studios engineered and fabricated the production's modular scenic system of two curved portals, four legs, and five conical platforms, each independently flown, tracked, or manually repositioned so the stage could evolve continuously across three acts. Hudson designed discreet breakpoints and efficient rigging interfaces throughout, compacting the entire structure into custom crates for storage, transport, and reinstallation without compromising its structural or aesthetic integrity. Hudson's finishing team also achieved a uniformly smooth surface treatment across every scenic face, letting the structures double as large-scale projection surfaces with sharp, distortion-free visuals from every seat in the house.
