Summer for the City

For Lincoln Center's 2026 Summer for the City programming, designer Clint Ramos envisioned an illuminated urban reed bed of 880 light-topped aluminum posts across Hearst Plaza's reflecting pool, with all electrical equipment submerged and hidden underwater for a three-month run through New York's humid summer. Hudson devised water-tight, weather-resistant enclosures of mirror and marine-grade plastic to protect and conceal 28 electrical enclosure boxes, then custom-built and pre-programmed the light reeds so they could remain constantly lit and perform a nightly wave effect throughout the run.
