Bookworm

When Tony-winning scenic designer David Korins redesigned the Drama Book Shop, he conceived Bookworm, a 140-foot sculpture of roughly 2,400 real books winding from a base fixture up and around the store's shelving before spilling onto its mezzanine, with each book required to sit in historical order and in a specific open or closed position.
Hudson Scenic Studios engineered, fabricated, and installed the sculpture, running steel pipe through each book with pin-and-sleeve connections and anchoring the suspended sections to hidden bases and the store's ceiling.
