For the 2022 Academy Awards, production designer David Korins needed a multi-layered, edge-lit portal spanning the Dolby Theatre's full 64-foot-wide, 34-foot-high proscenium, along with several electrified and automated scenic elements, built and ready in under two months from award to air, with no room for error on a live broadcast. Hudson Scenic Studios engineered and fabricated the scenery in repeatable, scalable sections to save shop and setup time, leaving more time for staging, testing, and quality control before the ceremony went live.
